Sale overcome 16-point deficit to close gap on Saracens at top of Premiership

Sale overturned a 16-point deficit to inflict only a third Premiership defeat of the season on Saracens and take a significant step towards a home playoff semi-final in the process. The gap at the top is now just six points after Sale shrugged off back-to-back defeats to strengthen their position inside the top two with an accomplished display.

The end result was in stark contrast from the opening half-hour, in which the league leaders were at their scintillating best to run up a commanding 16-0 lead inside the opening 30 minutes. However, Alex Goode’s yellow card 10 minutes from the break swung the momentum firmly in the favour of Sale, who rallied to trail by just five at half-time.
